My love for English Springer Spaniels began for me at the age of six when my mom, who owns Rainbow Bridges Kennel, brought the first Springer I had ever owned, Rosie, into our home. When Applejack came to us and we began raising Springers I really fell in love with the breed. Those two, as well as the other Springers that came afterwards, were the best friends that any children could ask for. My brother and sister and I spent many happy hours with them on the dairy farm where we were raised. We raised Springers for about ten years but then circumstances prevented us from raising them until my mom found Claudia and Munny and began raising again.
For me, growing up on a dairy farm, animals were one of the most important aspects of my life. The joy of helping to bring a new calf, foal, kitten or puppy into the world and the responsibility of raising it made a great impression on me as a child. This love of taking care of animals eventually led me to Clemson University where I received a bachelor’s degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. From the time I was five years old I had planned on perusing a career as a Veterinarian so that I could continue in that way of life.
From our first litter out of Claudia and Munny I fell in love with Mole and just could not bear to see him go. I searched for the perfect black and white tri colored female to breed to him and was graced with Lucinda. So began Vidair Kennel. I have since found several more wonderful Springers to add to my kennel. Like my mom, I have a great affinity for the different and rare colors so I have looked all over to find quality animals that will allow me to produce many different and beautiful springers.
Now that I am raising my beloved Springers again I no longer plan on attending Veterinary school. Though I know that I would enjoy it, I just cannot see myself leaving my dogs and moving away to school. I also know that as a Veterinarian I would have to spend after hours taking emergency calls and checking in on the animals in my clinic and that would not allow me to give the time and effort that is needed into raising the quality of animals that I intend. I am now working full time as a Veterinary Technician at a local clinic. This has been great for me as it has allowed me to work in a clinic without quite as much stress and responsibility as if I was the actual vet.
My love for my Springers has changed the entire course of my life and I hope that everyone who leaves my kennel with a new family member will feel this love and continue to share it for all of the years they have together.
